Paint a Door Without Removing It

We have been busy sprucing up the front of our house. This is a project we completed that I hope inspires you to transform something around your house. It is easy to paint a door without removing it, so you can easily change the look of your entrance.

Picking a Color

I knew I wanted to change the color of my door, but I was having a hard time committing to a new color. My grandparents bought a box of sample paints at a yard sale for 50¢. Since they didn’t need it, they offered it to me. (My grandma can’t pass up a good deal!) I liked some of the colors as options for the door and narrowed it down to green. There were two shades, so I tested them out on the door before deciding. After I painted them on, I moved around to see them at different angles. I also waited to see them in different lighting (daytime, evening, etc.). The boys liked the same color I did 🙂

Paint a Door Without Removing It

Before starting, I taped around the door handle and window. I painted the door using a base coat first before I applied the green. I ended up using a brush instead of a roller to do the entire door. I found that it looked better and smoother that way. In order to keep from having to take the entire door off, I opened it enough to get around the edges. Make sure to allow enough time for it to dry before closing the door again.

The new green brightens up the front of our house and gives a little pop of much needed color.Front Door After

A note of caution: If you have an HOA, you might want to check with them first. I didn’t even think about it until later. Luckily, I haven’t heard anything from our HOA about having to change it.
